I am a partner, (“back-end”) web application developer and data systems programmer (enterprise data and systems integration and reporting) for DSD Interactive, a small (two-person) development partnership located near Jack London Square in Oakland. We mostly do business process automation web applications in Ruby on Rails for small businesses. This was the second SVRC I’ve attended. I enjoyed the presentations and also enjoyed meeting other friends in the R/RoR development community.
In my “spare time” I like to read, listen to Jazz, and ride my bike on the back roads of the East Bay Hills – that is, when I’m not attending my daughter’s fastpitch softball games!

Technology is doubling every 14-16 months at this point.
So at this point you know half of everything that the expert in the field knows after the next year. Or in other words, you know half of everything that you will need to know to be competent in that field. The experts will have to “unlearn” huge amounts of stale information, technology, and practices. Start from scratch, fresh with an open mindset.
Interested in creating a Ruby solution to a Amateur(Ham) radio mashup as a learning project for Ruby & Rails.

Development manager in a traditional J2EE shop in Sacramento. Doing test driven development, continuous integration, code reviews, and Scrum. Since IBM Websphere is our mandated poison of choice, trying to sneak ruby in through the JRuby option.
Aha moment with Ruby and Rails was building the entire depot app in the Rails book test first without ever firing up web brick and looking at the GUI until the very end.
Trying to help bootstrap a Ruby brigade in Sacramento, but the community is still pretty small.

In 1993, Robert founded the high bandwidth ISP, InterNex, pioneering ISDN, QoS based pricing and internationally distributed Server Farms. InterNex was sold to Concentric in early 1998.
